General Information Page

Welcome to my stress management web site. It includes information on stress, a variety of stress related problems, along with the definitions / explanations of the many different stress management techniques. I will be providing information on stress training, coping skills, and how you can expand your own coping skills, and ability. The site will have a number of questionnaires that ASSESS levels of stress such as the Holmes and Rahe scale, Coopers scale etc. If you would like to have a clinical assessment regarding your results, please email and I will discuss any possibilities. Stress cannot be cured, but, you can learn effective coping techniques that can help reduce the effects stress has had on your body and mind.

I hope you find the information you need, if you have not please ask. * IMPORTANT - I receive a large number of requests for information on 'hyperventilating'. Please note; this site has a large breathing related section, which does include advice on how to cope. Please read the whole section as you may find I have already answered your question. If you are worried, please see your 'general' medical Dr . However, if you cannot find an answer and need more information, please email with a specific question. There will soon be information packs including CD's on a number of topics mentioned on the site, please email or use my FORMand I shall add you to my list. They will vary in size from one A4 to multiple pages. The charges will vary starting from 50p (pence) + P&P. I will add them to the products page when I have a number of sheets completed.

This site is under continual expansion and if you would prefer to be notified of new updates, please email, or use my FORM. My updates are very small, containing the new links, any release dates for my CD's. Titles and prices of any new products/features, they are irregular as they are only sent when a new section has been uploaded. Your address is NOT given to any third party. General web site idea.

I have decided that this site will not consist of 'how to do' exercises as such. Its main function is one of education; it will contain general information about stress and its effect on our bodies. There will be brief explanations of some of the many techniques available that help reduce stress. I wanted to produce a site that could help people understand stress and why stress management training is a worthwhile and effective approach to dealing and coping with their own stress and its effects. There are a few examples and suggestions to try, by following any of the suggestions on this site you have taken full responsibility for your actions. It is always wise to see professional assistance, your medical DR should be approached if you have any health concerns. The main function of this site is to provide information to enhance your own knowledge and understanding and ultimately your lifestyle.

I will describe some of the most popular techniques used in SMT- Stress Management Training including some of the possible side effects, good and bad! I thought it would be useful to have one site that one could visit (and hopefully re visit :-)), to find details about the many different management approaches, and why they are effective. That way should you decide stress management training is what you require you will have some understanding. At the end of exploring this site, you should have a basic understanding of what a stress management consultant may be talking about and the consultation process. Please remember your trainer / consultant may use different techniques to those described here. This site is meant only as a guide. If you have any questions, please email I do try to reply within 7 day of receipt, but sadly due to the excess numbers of spam there are times when I cannot respond as quickly as I'd like to. If the email is urgent, please use the urgent mark in your email system and I will try to answer on that day. I do my best to ensure ALL emails are answered promptly.

Professionally I would suggest that you seek guidance from someone with the appropriate qualifications. Sadly, there are people who claim to have qualifications in a subject, when they do not. If in doubt, the regulatory/governing bodies do have details regarding their members etc. I always advice that asking questions until you are confident and feel comfortable with the arrangement that you are paying for. If need be write questions down, so you do not forget, at the first meeting, as that can be stressful in itself. At the end of the day remember you are the one paying, the more information you have, the better prepared you will be. There is NOTHING wrong in being careful and checking credentials etc.

If you live in the UK you could try one of the major governing bodies; they should be able to give you a list of members in your area. There may be a small fee for checking or providing a list of people in your area.

When it actually comes to a consultation, expect to pay FROM £25 TO £100 per session, which is normal for an individual session of around 1.5 hours (90mins). Sometimes a consultant may use a 'sliding scale' (the fee is different depending on your circumstances), others use a set fee. There are different ways fees are charged, so it is important to remember to ask what an individual session consits of; and if they have any consessions, eg a discount for paying for a set number, unemployment, student rates etc. The price per session will also vary depending on the Country and County, if it is a group:- large and small, or a day's workshop / seminar etc. If at your first meeting you feel uncomfortable, mention this, as it should be dealt with immediately; to ensure, you receive the whole benefit from the sessions. If the feeling persists, then listen to your sub-conscious mind it is trying to tell you something.

Synergy is a useful site to use, as it is an online service that lists therapies and therapists in different areas in the UK. They are NOTa governing body, but you may find it a useful starting point. Do read their information page first before searching.
