BRELAXED STRESS CONSULTANCY

HOLMES AND RAHE SCALE

Before completing this questionnaire, again the best approach is to stay with your original response. That way you will have a more accurate assessment. I will be adding a student/teanager version in the near future. Say 'YES' to each event that has occurred in your life during the last 12 months only. Then total your respective scores there is a calculator if required only available to those who have JavaScript enabled on their web browser). If you would prefer to do the Coopers questionnaire click here.

Once you have your total score the results mean:- if your score was below 150, you have a 30% probability of developing an illness. This sounds bad, but when put into perspective, it is the same probability for everyone, or to be more accurate the average person stands a 30% chance of getting ill or developing an illness, at any one time!

If your score was between 150 - 299 then you have a 50% probability of developing an illness, nearly double of the national average. This means you 'should' and or 'need' to learn how to cope more effectively with stress and of course reduce the stress in your life. In other words, you do 'need' to be aware of stress and its effects in relation to your life.

If your score is over 300 the probability of becoming ill increases to 80%, this is extremely dangerous and the risk of developing cardiac problems is also extremely high. Stress reduction should now be a PRIORITY no ifs or buts, your body is unable to cope when under constant demand. Consider your body as an elastic band being pulled, it can only take so much stretching before it snaps, the same goes for your body and mind. Learning stress coping skills is required urgently, if you are to remain free from illness. Remember this is not just catching a cold, serious health problems can happen when under extreme pressure.

What was your score? Has this helped you in anyway? Has it relieved you in anyway or do you now feel more stressed? Do you think you will be able to take the next step, whatever that may be? If after completing this questionnaire you have concerns about yourself, friend, or relative then please ask for help, your general Doctor is often a good starting place. Stress is not something that can be 'cured' but there are ways to ensure it does not have a 'hold' or as large an impact on you and those around you.

This type of questionnaire does help in showing how stressed you are as it demonstrates what your present situation is. If you take this and other self assessments seriously and have the right overall attitude you can reduce the overall effect stress has on your body and mind.
